Build a Bear

I can’t fault the staff at our local Build a Bear store, they were exceptional and made the morning a really fun experience for Flea. She loves her soft toy and so does her cousin. But at £50 apiece, I don’t think she loves it enough to make this value for money. Other experienced parents have told me the way to make Build a Bear Work is to give kids a price limit before you go into the store, and then let them spend it how they choose – so it’s possible to get a bear for £9.99 and an outfit for another £10 or so. And it helps if you buy something at Build a Bear with 2 feet, rather than 4!

“This Playground 123 set is well made and a great first Playmobil set for young children, but I would buy a couple of different sets in the range to get maximum enjoyment out of it”.

Initial thoughts: I always loved Playmobil when I was little so I assumed that Baby B and Little S would too. They were excited to get the box open and started playing with the set straight away. It includes a base, slide, rocking dinosaur, flower, bench, female figure and 2 child figures. The slide, flower and bench can fit onto the base. This is one of several sets available in the Playmobil 123 range for younger children and toddlers.

We liked: It’s great for small hands and is suitable for toddlers aged 18 months and up. The children liked putting the figures down the slide and on the dinosaur rocker. Baby B loves walking around with one figure in each hand!

We weren’t keen: The set came in a big box and I think the children were expecting more when they opened it. Little S was disappointed that the arms don’t move (they are moulded to the side of the body) on the figures.

Overall: This set is well made and a great first Playmobil set for young children. However once you have rocked the dinosaur and slid the figures down the slide a few times there is not much else to do. S and B liked playing with it but got bored quickly so I think the set needs to be bigger and more involved. I would buy a couple of different sets in the range to get maximum enjoyment out of it.
