VTech Tiny Touch Phone
“He also looks really cute chatting on his Tiny Touch Phone! It’s small and light enough for him to hold comfortably and the volume is pleasingly low, so I’m not forever worrying that he’s going to damage his hearing – or mine!”

Initial Thoughts: Babies nowadays seem born with the ability to press buttons, and in my experience your average child can operate most electrical appliances in the home by the time their first birthday rolls around. The reason, presumably, is toys like this. The Vtech Tiny Touch Phone is a baby-sized plastic toy in the shape of a phone, that includes buttons to teach numbers, colours, sounds and shapes. It also plays music.
We liked: The phone is easy to use, just turn it on and away you go. Our one year old likes to press the buttons and he’s rewarded with flashing lights, talking or music. It’s small and light enough for him to hold comfortably and the volume is pleasingly low, so I’m not forever worrying that he’s going to damage his hearing – or mine! And he also looks really cute chatting on his ‘phone’!
We weren’t keen: The flashing lights were a bit much for me as I suffer from migraines. I couldn’t look at them for long. On the box, it says that the phone is suitable for 12-36 months but our two-year-old showed no interest in the phone. Although he is the perfect age to make full use of all the features, he thought the phone looked like a baby toy and wouldn’t touch it!
Overall: In our house getting hold of a phone is the Holy Grail for babies and toddlers, and this phone does the job. Our 12-month-old plays with it every day, for a few minutes at least, although he doesn’t make use of all the toys features – which makes it rather expensive, especially since the two-year-old would rather talk into a piece of Duplo than into this phone!
