“The boys love the BBC Audio 3rd and Bird – The Muffin Express and Other Stories CD. Absolutely love it. Almost the whole CD is songs and they sing along to it with gusto, shaking shoulders and bobbing their heads demonstrating their car seat dance moves every time it comes on. I, on the other hand, find it intensely irritating!”

Initial thoughts: A CD is always a hit in this household, although they did try to put it into the DVD player first. We haven’t got any knowledge of Muffin or the 3rd & Bird world so we didn’t really know what to expect when we first put theBBC Audio 3rd and Bird – The Muffin Express and Other Stories CD on.

We liked: The boys love this CD. Absolutely love it. Almost the whole CD is songs and they sing along to it with gusto, shaking shoulders and bobbing their heads demonstrating their carseat dance moves every time it comes on. Muffin is a bird who together with her friends Samuel and Rudy get up to various scrapes. We haven’t seen the original show but that doesn’t seem to matter as the boys took to it instantly. They would certainly listen to all 50 minutes in one go, always good to know for a long car journey.

We weren’t keen on: From my own personal point of view, I find the BBC Audio 3rd and Bird – The Muffin Express and Other Stories CD intensely irritating. The cutesy voices of the birds, Muffin in particular make me want to slam my fingers in a concrete door. Sadly for me, the boys won’t let me take the CD out of the player. So on balance Muffin is annoying but not as annoying as whinging children desperate to get me to put it back in and whinging so loudly that I can’t hear any other CD that I put on.

Overall:
For enjoyment expressed by the small people, the BBC Audio 3rd and Bird – The Muffin Express and Other Stories CD is the current No. 1. Bigger people might find that it grates. But then again, there aren’t that many children’s CDs that don’t.
