Build a Bear

I can’t fault the staff at our local Build a Bear store, they were exceptional and made the morning a really fun experience for Flea. She loves her soft toy and so does her cousin. But at £50 apiece, I don’t think she loves it enough to make this value for money. Other experienced parents have told me the way to make Build a Bear Work is to give kids a price limit before you go into the store, and then let them spend it how they choose – so it’s possible to get a bear for £9.99 and an outfit for another £10 or so. And it helps if you buy something at Build a Bear with 2 feet, rather than 4!

Initial thoughts: The Kiddymania Dinosaur Dressing Up Outfit is a green dinosaur complete with a head (hood), scales down the back and a tail. There are two armholes and the whole things fastens at the front with Velcro, making it easy for little hands to manage. It’s a one-size only affair, for 18 months – 3 years, so you should get a couple of parties’ worth of wear out of it – although Baby B (14 months) wasn’t keen on wearing it, so this one was tested by Little S (3yo)

We liked: Little S wore a wizard outfit last Halloween, and ended up wearing it for days. But as a rule, he’s not big on dressing up. Despite that, he loved the look of this dinosaur outfit and asked to put it on straight away.

It’s a good fit for Little S even though he’s almost four, and I thought the quality was excellent – it’s well made, and looks great on. The tail and scales are a really nice touch and although you can buy outfits for cheaper than £20, I think this is great value considering all the wear you’ll get out of it.

We weren’t keen: Some of the inner material is a little bit scratchy, so we found the outfit was more comfortable over a long-sleeved top. Little S found the arm holes a bit tight, too, but to be fair he’s probably a little big too big for this outfit!

Overall: This Kiddymania Dinosaur Dressing Up Outfit bears a spooky resemblance to George Pig’s Dinosaur, and so I reckon it will impress Peppa Pig fans like Little S. It’s suitable for boys or girls, and I like the fact that it will last more than one night. This is something kids can play in for several years, which is a rarity among Halloween costumes. Little S can also testify that this is a GREAT costume for perfecting your roar in!
