Build a Bear

I can’t fault the staff at our local Build a Bear store, they were exceptional and made the morning a really fun experience for Flea. She loves her soft toy and so does her cousin. But at £50 apiece, I don’t think she loves it enough to make this value for money. Other experienced parents have told me the way to make Build a Bear Work is to give kids a price limit before you go into the store, and then let them spend it how they choose – so it’s possible to get a bear for £9.99 and an outfit for another £10 or so. And it helps if you buy something at Build a Bear with 2 feet, rather than 4!

Initial thoughts: The Kids Army US Pilot Jumpsuit is a really nicely made fancy dress costume for kids aged 2-8. It’s an all-in-one US pilot jumpsuit in khaki green. It’s got a zip up the front, an adjustable belt, functional pockets and even some little “wings” badges, plus a plane logo and the Stars and Stripes. It’s available in sizes from birth to 8 years.

We liked: This costume is 100 percent cotton and machine washable, so it can be worn repeatedly without worrying about it being ruined. The cotton is thick enough that I think it would wear well, too. The quality is excellent – nothing like the cheap polyester costumes you find in many stores – and there’s no denying it is unbelievably cute.

I fully expect both Presley or Cash to wear this to every party they’re invited to for the foreseeable future, even parties that aren’t fancy dress. We loved this suit for lots of reasons, but basically, it’s a miniature Top Gun suit – seeing Presley walk the length of the kitchen, I could almost see the heat rising from the tarmac. Well, the carpet. All together now: “Take my breath awaaaaaay….”

We weren’t keen: There’s a little part of me that’s a bit uncomfortable about the brand name of the costume, which is Kids Army. I’m not anti-military, but don’t want to encourage my children to join the forces! Having said that, they’re too young to know what the military is all about. One small complaint: the Kids Army US Pilot Jumpsuit really ought to come with Aviator sunglasses, so you can really complete the look!

Overall: If you’re looking for a high-quality costume that won’t fall to bits, the Kids Army US Pilot Jumpsuit is for you. And it doesn’t hurt that my son looked completely, utterly adorable in it. Highly recommended.
