Hide & Seek Christmas Book

The flaps on each page are small and it takes a bit of hunting round to find them (even for me!) which adds to the fun and Kai’s pleasure when he finds them.

Initial thoughts: This beautiful, large ‘touchy-feely’ board book from Usborne contains fun things to find on every page behind lots of little flaps and different textures for curious fingers to explore.

The concept is ‘counting down to Christmas’, with five things to find, then four, three, two, one with the last page featuring a lift-the-flap advent calender.

We liked: Touchy feely AND flaps? This is Kai’s idea of the perfect book and he LOVES it. The illustrations are gorgeous with beautiful bold colours and lots of sparkly detail.

The flaps on each page are small and it takes a bit of hunting round to find them (even for me!) which adds to the fun and Kai’s pleasure when he finds them. The advent calendar page is a lovely touch – I’m going to really enjoy opening a flap a day with Kai in the countdown to Christmas.

We weren’t so keen: Younger babies might struggle with these little flaps so probably best for older babies and toddlers this one. Also, as with all flap books, a bit too over-enthusiastic pulling of the flaps by an excited toddler can quickly leave it looking a bit ragged. One to use with supervision!

Overall: We’ve had a few Christmas books from Usborne and this is by far our favourite. Beautiful – this is one Kai is going to read over and over again, and all year round too!
