Initial thoughts: For those of you who don’t know about Baby Annabell, she is at the top of every pre-school age girl’s Christmas list. Well, at least, that’s what topped my girls’ list to Santa a couple of years ago. That Christmas we ended up having Baby Annabell “triplets” to care for. Zapf Creation have released a new doll this year, so I was keen to find out what was different about this version of Baby Annabell.

We liked: This Baby Annabell is a huge improvement on the last one. My 7-year-old’s exact quote was: “The other baby Annabell didn’t do anything except move her head”.  This one really delivers:  She babbles, gurgles and sucks on her dummy or bottle and comes with a cuddly sheep toy that plays a lullaby and eventually coaxes Baby Annabell to sleep. The doll drinks water from a bottle and burps, yawns and falls asleep. She coos “dah dah dah”, giggles, and prompted my 4-year-old to put on a “mummy voice” to sooth her. Adorable.

We weren’t so keen: Well, like all babies, they tend to get a wee bit annoying. Even my 4-year-old asked if there was on “off” switch (which there is, thankfully).

Overall: Baby Annabell 2009 is fantastic! My three daughters (ages 4, 5 and 7) love pretending to be mum to their very own baby girl. But unlike like a real baby, you can turn her off when the crying gets to be a bit much.
