Initial thoughts: The Chica Bead Bazaar is an adorable mixture of different shades, shapes and sizes of wooden beads, for making your own jewellery. Each kit, suitable for children aged 5+, comes with six wooden pendants, different colours of cord and instructions – stored in a handy, purple reusable tote bag.

We liked: My girls couldn’t believe their luck when I sat them down after dinner and surprised them with the Chica Bead Bazaar for an impromptu jewellery-making session. We made anklets, bracelets and necklaces, and I was surprised how quickly the girls got into the swing of it.

The kit is jam-packed with so many beads that it kept the girls absorbed for hours and I think it’s perfect for settling down with on a winter’s evening. It kept the youngsters entertained and has the added benefit of helping their hand-eye coordination. I haven’t seen the girl sitting quietly and concentrating so much for a long time. This was a definite hit for the girls and their parents!

We weren’t so keen: A few of the coloured beads didn’t have large enough holes in them to thread the cord through which was a little frustrating for the girls, and although the instructions seem simple enough to follow I still couldn’t tie the cord in the knot that is suggested. This meant the girls needed help to do some of the more intricate parts of the process – so I would suggest being around to help children play with the beads unless they’re a little older.

Overall: The Chica Bead Bazaar jewellery kit is the perfect present to keep little girls entertained on all those wet and cold winter evenings, but do expect to help 5 and 6 year olds. The price is reasonable considering the enormous variety of beads included in the set, and the fantastic quality – my girls are wearing their bracelets with pride!
