Initial thoughts: Suitable for children aged 3 – 7 the ELC Extreme Marble Madness is Ethan’s kind of toy. He enjoys playing with things that can be constructed and couldn’t wait to open the box and get started.

With his Daddy and Grandad on hand to help he knew he was in for some real fun. He was building towers with the pieces while Daddy and Grandad were still discussing the finer points of engineering the perfect marble run.

We liked: Ethan thought the ELC Extreme Marble Madness was brilliant. Even though he is only 3 years old he got stuck straight into building a marble run. Being at the younger end of the age range he did need some help in getting some of the pieces the right way round but this only added to his enjoyment. Any game that can be played with Daddy or Grandad is a bonus for him. He was screaming with glee as he raced the marbles against them.

We weren’t keen on: There were a couple of small hitches we came across with Extreme Marble Madness. Firstly, there are no instructions so it’s all guess work, but engineering the marble runs is half the point of the game (as I explained to Ethan’s Daddy more than once).  Younger children will need help with constructing runs.

Secondly, the blue spiral wind-up section of the main tower doesn’t function as well as it could. The marbles have a habit of getting stuck in the top and jammed if you are a little over enthusiastic like Ethan.

Overall: It’s a big thumbs up for ELC Extreme Marble Madness from us. Great for little imaginations and learning basic engineering skills. Ethan loved it so much he played with it for a full hour and a half non-stop. I’m sure it’ll be a favourite in this household for a long while.
