Initial thoughts: A friend of ours has a balance bike for her 4 year old daughter and through using it, she can now ride a bike unaided, so we were keen to get one for Little S.

The Kettler Balance Bike arrived part put together so all I need to do was attach the wheel, handlebars, adjustable seat and kickstand with the included tools. I put it together easily (with the help of S!) in about 20 minutes. It’s a colourful sturdy looking bike that S was immediately taken with. It’s suitable from 2 years old.

We liked: The Kettler Balance Bike has a good sized, cushioned sturdy seat. This, coupled with the the pneumatic tyres makes it a comfortable ride and gives more stability. Little S had great fun scooting around on it and trying to balance. The kickstand is a great idea as it meant no throwing the bike on the ground!

We weren’t keen: S found it difficult to brake as it was not responsive enough and hard for a small child to pull on.

Overall: This is a great bike and ideal for teaching your child to balance in preparation for a pedal bike. It’s the perfect size for small children. S has started to balance whilst using it but I can see it taking a while for him to learn what to do. Given time I think he would get the hang of balancing and be well on the way to riding a big boy’s bike all by himself.
