Build a Bear

I can’t fault the staff at our local Build a Bear store, they were exceptional and made the morning a really fun experience for Flea. She loves her soft toy and so does her cousin. But at £50 apiece, I don’t think she loves it enough to make this value for money. Other experienced parents have told me the way to make Build a Bear Work is to give kids a price limit before you go into the store, and then let them spend it how they choose – so it’s possible to get a bear for £9.99 and an outfit for another £10 or so. And it helps if you buy something at Build a Bear with 2 feet, rather than 4!

Initial Thoughts: When I extricated My Pal Violet from the box (so many bits of plastic holding it in!), my initial thought was “Oh, how soft and cute!”  The material is lovely; something you would definitely love to cuddle up to. My Pal Violet is a teddy with coloured paws and ears. On each of her paws is a different embroidered logo – push these logos and Violet will sing, tell a story, play bedtime music or talk to your child.

If you connect the toy to a computer, you can also personalise Violet by choosing different songs for the toy to play, and by adding your child’s name. My intention was to connect My Pal Violet to the computer to personalise her for Ella but Ella spied her before I could get a chance.  Ella cuddled right up to Violet, started pushing buttons and was thoroughly entertained.

We Liked: I loved the soft material of My Pal Violet and how easy it was to push the buttons on her paws.  Ella had no trouble accessing the music and talking features.  The personalisation is also quite extensive for a toy aimed at quite young children – from 6 months plus – you can load in name, pronunciation, foods, animals and colours.

The options are pretty extensive so even  if your child loves aardvarks, you’re covered!  Ella was thrilled when Violet said her name and proceeded to repeat her own name every time My Pal Violet did.  This made My Pal Violet a very entertaining addition to our household!

We Weren’t Keen: Initially, I had trouble personalising My Pal Violet for Ella.  My husband’s laptop was only showing a partial screen for some reason but when I downloaded the application on my laptop, I had no problems, so the issue may have been down to our computer.

The music choices are perhaps a little disappointing – there aren’t any recognisable songs, just ‘pingy’ tunes – I’d love it if you could choose your own songs, so I could choose some of Ella’s favourites.

Overall: Ella is thrilled with My Pal Violet and with the exception of the music options, I am very pleased with this product. My Pal Violet and My Pal Scout (the green version) are very popular and I would recommend My Pal Violet to any family and considering the cost (£15.99), it’s well worth it.
