Pintoy Fire Engine“The Pintoy fire engine is a great quality wooden toy that will stand up to a lot of bashing and dropping and whatever else your little monsters can throw at it – and will still look great.”

Initial thoughts: Flea has been asking for a fire engine all year and this one looked to fit the bill – it’s big enough for her to be able to put figures inside it and play with it imaginatively, but not so big that it would take over the entire room. The fire engine is nicely made, robust, and has rounded corners to avoid damage to a) small children and b) skirting boards.

We liked: this was just the right size for Flea’s various action figures and the roof of the engine cabin comes off, as does the roof of the rear section of the vehicle – so you can store figures in the engine, and easily play with the driver and co-driver. There are some nice details, including a hosepipe you can plug into the side of the engine and two locker doors on the side of the engine. Overall, the quality was what really impressed me – it’s beautifully made and nicely painted with some great details.

We weren’t keen: The hosepipe is quite tricky for little fingers to operate, but apart from that we don’t have any complaints – it’s a nice quality toy, and I think would stand up to years of robust play without showing any signs of damage. Although I’ve seen the Pintoy Fire Engine priced as high as £38.99 which I think is REALLY expensive for what it is – especially if you also purchase the accompanying fireman figures and fire engine, which add another £80 to the price tag.

Overall: A great quality wooden toy that will stand up to a lot of bashing and dropping and whatever else your little monsters can throw at it – and will still look great. But my advice would be to use generic figures and accessories unless you have a hardcore fire engine fan, because the Pintoy ones are pretty expensive.
