Rufus Rabbit Shape Sorter

Initial thoughts: This shape sorter from Silver Cross’ new range of toys looks absolutely gorgeous: the fabrics used are very funky and contemporary. Rufus Rabbit comes with three vegetables to fit into the shapes, a carrot with a bell inside, a cauliflower with a squeaker and a beetroot with a rattle. Its head also spins around and the base has Velcro tabs so you can release the toys. It did take a while to get it from its packaging; quite a lot of plastic tags keeping all together and BG got quite impatient waiting for the toy.
We liked: BG loves this toy, and it’s really fun watching her enjoy getting to grips with Rufus. She’s just learning to put objects into things at the moment so she likes trying to get the vegetables in the spaces, though she hasn’t quite worked out they are different shapes get so she tries to get them all in the carrot shaped hole.
She also likes playing with the vegetables separately as they make noise, the rattle, bell and squeaker make a strong sound which we like, there is no point having noise makers in toys if they don’t actually make noise! BG hasn’t quite realised that the base of the sorter can be released to retrieve the shapes, so she sticks her hand into get the toys but that’s something for her to learn in the future.
We weren’t keen: I felt that it could do with being just a little bit bigger; once you get all three vegetables inside the rabbit it bulges – although this may be accurate of a stuffed rabbit! Also the vegetables are a snug fit when putting them through the holes, so they have to be pushed in, and BG gets a little bit frustrated with this.
Overall: The Silver Cross Rufus Rabbit shape sorter is a lovely toy: it looks funky and definitely keeps BG’s attention. A great toy to grow with, and a perfect gift for new babies and toddlers.
