Initial thoughts: This is one of those toys your children  get given and you’re secretly plotting how to get it out of the house. It’s noisy and irritating and the children love it. And it’s only a fiver? Wow. Be interesting to see how long we last.

It’s basically an air guitar with pre-programmed tunes on that you can strum along to using ‘infared strings’. Loudly.

We liked: It’s small and portable (and can easily be hidden). It has 8 classic tunes (including Smoke on the Water, of course!) and allows you to strum along to them or just ‘free play’. You can even opt for sharp or flat notes and turn into a proper wannabe rock star. I’ve also just discovered you can plug headphones in. Bonus.

We weren’t so keen: It’s really loud. There is no volume button. And hubby and my 7 year old son are “rocking out” (their words,  not mine) on it all the time.

Overall: The Tomy Guitar Rockstar is loud, unashamed fun. If you have a budding rock star in the family then this is a must. And it’s hard to believe it costs just £5. Amazing!
