Build a Bear

I can’t fault the staff at our local Build a Bear store, they were exceptional and made the morning a really fun experience for Flea. She loves her soft toy and so does her cousin. But at £50 apiece, I don’t think she loves it enough to make this value for money. Other experienced parents have told me the way to make Build a Bear Work is to give kids a price limit before you go into the store, and then let them spend it how they choose – so it’s possible to get a bear for £9.99 and an outfit for another £10 or so. And it helps if you buy something at Build a Bear with 2 feet, rather than 4!

Initial thoughts:  I was really excited when I saw the Battle Strikers game. I have seen it advertised on TV and I thought that it looked like loads of fun.

The big box includes a game zone, magic finger controller and a turbo launcher that you use to launch your strikers into the game. The aim of Battle Strikers is to know out your partner’s striker and be crowned King of the battle!

We liked: the packaging makes the game look completely awesome. I had a few games with my sister but she wasn’t all that interested so I took it to play with one of my friends. This was much better. A boy on boy battle to the end! (By the way, the cat liked watching the strikers spin too!)

We weren’t so keen: It took me ages to put together because the instructions weren’t very clear. I read them a few times to make sure that I was doing it properly but after a while I did get the feeling that this wasn’t going to be very good. I really wanted to put it together myself but I couldn’t and I had to admit defeat and ask Dad to help me.

Then we realized that the game needed six batteries. Yes six. We didn’t have six spare batteries so we had to borrow them from everything that we could find. All of the Wii controllers, the girls’ Hello Kitty sewing machine and a Leap Pad are now all battery-less!

Overall: In theory Battle Strikers looks like a great game but it is so hard to put together and uses so many batteries. When I finally did get to test it I was quite fed up because it had taken me so long to put together. But the game itself was good, and I enjoyed playing it a lot.
