Playmobil SpinosaurusInitial Thoughts: Interesting trivia fact: all of Playmobil’s toys are based on the real world (historical or contemporary) so one of the reasons it took so long for Playmobil to create a dinosaur range was because people and dinosaurs never co-existed.

Fortunately for dino fans, the company decided that maybe some Playmobil people found these dinosaurs packed in ice, and the Playmobil Dino Expedition range was born. This set includes a Spinosaurus with two baby dinosaurs, a rocky nest with some eggs and two hapless scientist types, who I imagine are about to get eaten. Virtually no assembly, beyond plonking some plants into the holes in the rocky landscape.

We liked: The dinosaur figures are amazingly robust and sturdy, and I would bet that no matter what sort of rough treatment they’re given, it’s almost impossible to break these figures. You can remove the legs, but they just snap back on, so no harm done! The big dinosaur’s arms and legs and jaws move, and he does look quite menacing, with very sharp teeth!  The little dinosaurs, meanwhile, are very cute – as little dinosaurs should be, of course.

Overall: Of all the Playmobil sets that have passed through our house, this was the one that Flea played with least. This surprised me at first, because Flea is quite a big fan of dinosaurs, as a rule. I think, though, that the dinosaurs don’t naturally mix with the other Playmobil sets, and if Flea is playing dinosaurs she has a whole set of plastic dinosaurs that look a lot more realistic than the Playmobil Spinosaurus. Having said that, if you’re looking for a toy for a hardcore dinosaur fan, this range is solidly made and very good quality and value.
