Build a Bear

I can’t fault the staff at our local Build a Bear store, they were exceptional and made the morning a really fun experience for Flea. She loves her soft toy and so does her cousin. But at £50 apiece, I don’t think she loves it enough to make this value for money. Other experienced parents have told me the way to make Build a Bear Work is to give kids a price limit before you go into the store, and then let them spend it how they choose – so it’s possible to get a bear for £9.99 and an outfit for another £10 or so. And it helps if you buy something at Build a Bear with 2 feet, rather than 4!

Handy Manny tool kitInitial Thoughts: The tools in the Handy Manny soft tool box look just like the characters on the TV cartoon. In case you’ve never caught Handy Manny, he’s a Hispanic handyman who fixes things with his tools, which are also alive, and talk. As you do. Handy Manny is one of BG’s favourite TV shows, so she recognised the set straight away and was really excited! They look well made, and I don’t think they’d fall apart too quickly with heavy use – which is good considering how they would probably be played with !

We liked: The Handy Manny tool set toys are soft, bright and extremely good quality. BG really likes to take all the tools out of the box, ask me what they are, then replace them and carry the box around with her. Sometimes she  carries the box around like a handbag; I’m not sure where she’s picked that habit up as I no longer carry a bag on my shoulder! She also likes to cuddle them like soft toys, which is so sweet to watch.

We weren’t keen: The tools are attached to the toolbox with those annoying plastic tags, but we cut those off before giving the toy to BG. Apart from that, I couldn’t pick anything I didn’t like about this toy.

Overall: Even if you haven’t watched the Handy Manny show on TV, I think the Handy Manny soft tool box is a great unisex toy. It’s well made, and will help children learn the names and functions of different tools, and it’s also small enough for little ones to pick up and carry around with them. Although I will say I’m glad the tools are soft – as BG keeps trying to hit me with the hammer!
