Initial Thoughts: Flea turned four last week and received a Lego Creative Building Tub as a present. I was really pleased as I think she’s ready for something a bit more challenging than Duplo – also I love Lego, and I don’t think you’re really allowed to buy it for yourself once you’re over 30.

But when we opened the box, well, I was a bit underwhelmed. The blocks fill about 10% of the box – if that. In fact, Flea received a second, identical tub of Leo from a friend. With both sets of Lego in one tub, it looks like the photo on the right. Not that impressive, really, is it?

We liked: It’s Lego – lovely quality, there’s a nice selection of bricks and Flea liked the figure, as well as the windows and doors, which are new to her. I built a house, she made a stage for her dinosaurs to do a show. As you do.

The box is nice and sturdy and the one we keep will store future Lego bricks, too, while the other one is doing great duty holding my dusters and polish.

We weren’t keen: I know it’s a small thing, but I wish this set had some bigger base boards. The one supplied is TINY, and Flea needs a solid base to build her creations on – until we buy one she needs a lot of help getting started, and things fall apart too easily, so she’s frustrated.

Overall: It’s a nice set as a starter for 4 year olds, but it’s a bit limited so I’d buy two – and a base board.
