tomy micropetsInitial thoughts: I thought jingly baby toys were annoying. I had no idea. When three of these Tomy Micropets arrived at our front door we were all “awww, they’re sooo cute”. That lasted all of five minutes.

There are nine pets to collect and they each have five modes (from singing and walking, to chasing and dodging (!)) you just tap your finger or the supplied ball in front of them and off they go.

We liked: The Tomy Micropets move, they walk, they sing and they chase things. They’re also rather sweet and bright looking with names like Custard and Milk and Rose Hip and they’re small enough to carry in your pocket and take anywhere. A little girl’s dream.

We weren’t keen on: They move, they walk, they sing and they chase things ALL THE TIME. Put them together and they actually sing to each other. And they’re small enough to carry in your pocket so they go EVERYWHERE!

And £9.99 each? I honestly thought I’d read this wrong, but no. And nine to collect? That’s nearly £100 of utter annoyance you could have your youngster begging you for.

Overall: Possibly the most annoying toy that has ever graced our house. Mia smuggled them in her suitcase to take on holiday with us and one started to ‘sing’ at baggage check! The airport staff did not raise a smile. The children did love them, though, it has to be said.

The Micropets are cute enough to begin with but really do begin to wear thin if you’re a parent, and at £9.99 I think they’re a little expensive considering that even Mia got bored with hers after a while.
