Initial Thoughts: when I first spotted the Aspace wooden sword, I was instantly reminded of the wooden swords my grandfather used to make for us when we were children. And how much fun they were. A lightsaber is all well and good, but sometimes only a wooden sword will do – and this one looks gorgeous.

We liked: it’s nice and light, so Flea could wield this in a most impressive manner. The blade is quite thin, too, and I get the impression the wood would snap before doing any serious injury. The blade is rounded and there are no sharp corners that could have someone’s eye out.

We weren’t keen: The handle of the sword is painted blue and after half an hour there were already a couple of small scratches on the sword. Over time, this is undoubtedly a toy that will get that ‘loved’ look, but I don’t think it’s a big problem – it’s wooden, so it’ll last even if the paint job doesn’t.

Overall: It’s a lovely, traditional toy at a fantastic price, and the children we tested this toy with absolutely loved it. Just make sure you warn kids not to go attacking the TV with it!
