Initial Thoughts
: Argos arranged for us to collect our sample Kitty from a local store and when I went in the manager came rushing over. “I know it looks weird, but kids love it,” he said. From inside a box behind him came a little “miaow” sound. When I picked up the box, something inside purred and the whole bag vibrated.
Touch its ear, touch its ear!” urged the girl on the counter. I obliged – the cat rolled over inside its box and tried to bat me with its paw. Depending on how you look at it, this is either deeply weird and borderline disturbing, or unspeakably cute.

We liked: My seven-year-old niece volunteered to review Lulu the Cuddling Kitty and it has to be said, it was love at first sight. If you don’t look too closely at the face, the kitten is extremely lifelike, the fur is soft and fluffy, and – according to Annabelle – the paws even feel like real paws. If you stroke the cat, it will purr and miaow and move its paws.

Keep stroking and eventually it rolls over so you can stroke its tummy. If you rub the cat’s whiskers, it moves it head in a cat-like way. It has to be said that the miaow is spookily realistic – when I first brought it into the house, I honestly thought the kitten from next door had followed me inside.

Annabelle loved grooming Lulu with the included comb, and liked the little birth certificate included in the box.

We weren’t keen: from an adult perspective, I thought the cat was a little noisy when it moved, but that definitely didn’t bother the children who played with it.

Overall: A great present for children who like animals, and with enough interactivity to hold their interest over time. My niece has since sent me a text to say, “Thanks Aunty Sally, a million, million times!” So I think it’s a hit. My top tip, though? Don’t leave the batteries in when it’s under the tree because Lulu does make noises at the most random times!
