Initial thoughts: My daughter is totally nuts about animals. All animals, any animal, she’s not fussy. So when this cuddly Emperor penguin chick turned up on our doorstep in a giant box (that could quite easily have fit her in!) she thought all her Christmases had come at once. However, cute and cuddly as it is, I’m thinking ‘would I really pay nearly £30 for a giant penguin?

We liked: It really is all kinds of gorgeous. Standing at 53cm tall, it’s a lot of cute for your money. But the biggest bonus is you are helping to save endangered species every time you buy one of these toys. Plus, if you check on the website, you get details of the animals themselves and can take your pick from everything from a lion and a chimp (African friends) to an octopus (Ocean friends), a panda and a gorgeous orang-utan (Rainforest friends).

Weren’t keen on: Just the price really. It’s a bit steep for a cuddly toy, but having said that my daughter utterly adores it and has had more joy out of it than the countless other soft toys that litter her bedroom.

Overall: If your child is a big fan of cuddly toys this will be a big hit. The price is steep but it is a way of introducing youngsters to the plight of endangered animals and explaining how you have helped with conservation by buying it. I do think I would struggle with the price, but having seen how she sits with it, trying desperately to get her arm around the huge thing, I can highly recommend it.
