Mod machines are well made and very easy for Maxi and Mini to alter and configure to their hearts content

Buy online: Toys R Us

From £9.99 to £24.99

Initial Thoughts: Why oh why do toy manufacturers feel the need to fasten toys so securely in to their packaging.  The Tonka Mod Machines did escape the scurge of the wire connectors, but they are still tied with a raffia type binding and require scissors and patience.  The boys were very excited and couldn’t wait for mummy to get into the very large boxes open.

We liked: The Mod Machines are very well made and robust.  The individual machines all have interchangeable parts, so you can customise each and all of the vehicles.  The beauty of the Tonka Mod Machines is that Mini and Maxi could do the building, taking apart and customisation all on their own.  The boys loved the fact that one of the vehicles was motorised and that they could drive it over the floor to each other, but the best bit for them was the wheels, yes big ones, little ones, wide ones and thin ones!

We weren’t keen: I didn’t like the packaging, but then that is nothing unusual when it comes to children’s toys.  Also the fact that you get lots of add ons and no where to keep them, so they can go missing.  The Machines are not small and it could get quite pricey to get all the machines, but I can see them being well loved and used.

Overall: Tonka are a long founded name and these machines hark back to the Tonka’s of old.  There are a great boys toy which should have a level of longevity and can grow with the child too.  They are on the large size, but then that means my 4 year old could manage to customise and change them on his own.
