Orchard Toys – If you See a Crocodile Game

Submitted by on November 1, 2010 – 7:22 pmNo Comment

If you see a chrocodile is a very creative, fun game and we all enjoyed playing it. It held the concentration of my 4 year old and even my 8 year old loved it, and wanted to play again and again.

Initial Thoughts: As most of the Orchard Toys games are designed to assist children with the Foundation Stage and Key Stages 1 and 2 of the National Curriculum, and much of the range has won an educational award of some sort, we were looking forward to reviewing this game and knew from being fans of Orchard Toys that it could possibly be a favourite. The game came packaged in its own colourful and cheery box and we couldn’t wait to get going, have a sit down and try out the game. It is a game for 2-4 players ( 3+) and contains 30 double sided cards, 6 ‘finish’ cards, 4 boat characters, 4 character stands, 1 board, 1 3D boat house, 1 3D boat, 1 colour spot dice, and one instruction leaflet. The aim of the game is to row your boat to the boat house by matching the colour spot dice to the colours on the game board, whilst watching out for the crocodiles!

We liked: It is a very creative, fun game and we all enjoyed playing it. It held the concentration of my 4 year old and even my 8 year old loved it, and wanted to play again and again. It is also educational in that it helps introduce the world of colours to little ones, how to take turns nicely, and learning to count numbers. Would definitely recommend for pre-schoolers and even mums and dads would enjoy the fun aspect of it too! It is an excellent game for young children and my 4 year old loved it when any of us picked up the card with a crocodile on and had to scream, he found it hilarious!  We also like that all the board used for Orchard games and puzzles is 100% recycled and all are manufactured in the UK.

We weren’t keen: My four year old did get a little confused on how to follow the rules, but the game is also good for teaching him many other skills, like playing fairly, waiting his turn etc etc. I would say that for very little ones an adult/older child would need to play too to keep the game structured. When playing with more than 2 players it is clear that there are not enough spot colour cards and therefore you need to regularly take the cards out of the 3D boat, shuffle them and place them back into the centre of the board, which myself and the 8 year old did find a little frustrating. Also the 3D boat did need a little help from cellotape to keep it together.

Overall: Another wonderful family game from Orchard Toys, my children love to play this over and over and the screaming when you see a crocodile card has everyone in giggles. If you are looking for a fun, non complicated family activity board game for your little ones I would certainly recommend this game.
