The Playmobil Police advent calendar has great toys, it’s just a shame about the packaging!

playmobil advent calendarInitial Thoughts: We were really excited to get our hands on a Playmobil Advent calendar to review as the kids are both big fans of Playmobil. However this turned out to be somewhat disappointing in that it requires parents to assemble it first and while I’m usually pretty good at putting stuff together, this completely flummoxed me. The set includes a cardboard base and scene which slot together, and an assortment of toys which fit into boxes that hang on a wall calendar – you can either assemble the toys in advance, or build each one on the day as you open the box. After 24 days, you have created a police scene, complete with a burglar on a bicycle!

We liked: The toy collection for inside the Playmobil police advent calendar is excellent, with plenty of play value. I particularly like the bicycle. You also get a great selection of Playmobil figures, and some fun accessories. the cardboard base and boxes are robust enough that you should be able to use them for more than one year.

We weren’t keen: The self assembly aspect of the advent calendar is a definite let down for me – several of the individual toys require assembly.  From my perspective, if I wanted an advent calendar to put together, I’d get one of the fabric ones and select the toys myself!

Overall: Prepare in advance – if you get one of these you need time and privacy to assemble it – if you practice in advance it just takes a few minutes on the day, and you can always opt to assemble each toy as you open it.
