Initial thoughts: The Girls Christmas book has a very Christmassy look with a red and green front cover and snowflakes etc. As it is a ‘Christmas Book’, everything in it was themed toward Christmas so you could learn how to turn your bedroom into a Christmas Grotto and keep a list of all the presents you received. You can also colour in, learn how to make gingerbread cookies and read short stories, so there is plenty of variety between the pages.
We liked: My daughter went straight to the quiz page – this is always her favourite part, she will be an excellent team member in a pub quiz team in years to come! She loved the facts and trivia that were contained in the book, and I loved how she could learn to make a pom-pom which is something that I did as a girl.
We weren’t keen: When I asked my daughter what she thought of the book, she said that she didn’t like how there was no colour in the book. I pointed out that this was done on purpose, so you can colour the pages in yourself, but she said she likes to see colour in the book! I don’t see this as a down side though – if you are buying this for a Christmas gift for someone, just be sure to get some crayons to go with it!
Overall: This book was crammed with lots of different things to read, think about and do, and will make an excellent distraction for the kids on the ‘big day’ when they are having ‘toy fatigue’! I plan to whip this out after dinner on 25th December when the kids start saying they are ‘bored’ with the afternoon telly!
