“Laura couldn’t get the hang of the Sprayza no fuss airbrush pens and got frustrated, but my two 10-year-olds got along a little better.”

sprayzaInitial thoughts: This toy was provided through the ToysRUs Toyologist programme and reviewed by Laura, 5, and her two 10-year-old brothers. These are their thoughts: The set was easy to set up and Laura was able to do that independently, and the box was very colourful – the children all wanted to get started right away.

We liked: Both boys enjoyed the effect and using it, and quickly experimented with creating different effects. Ten-year-old #1 said: “It’s cool, like spray painting a car.” Ten-year-old #2 said “It’s good fun and I like doing it but you can’t do it for long – it takes a lot of breath!”

I liked the variation and flexibility – the stencils provide a good starting point but the Sprayza set allows children the creativity to make their own creations, too.

We weren’t keen: Laura got a little frustrated about controlling the amount that you have to blow in order to make the pen spray and to control the flow – if you blow too hard, the print easily spreads beneath the stencil, ruining the effect. For best results, you have to keep the pen moving while you blow, and I think it will take a little practice to get the desired effect.

Overall: From a parents’ point of view the positive points of the Sprayza pens are that they are quick and easy to use with minimal preparation time. There’s also very little mess, although any stains will wash off quite easily. The box is small and easily stored, making it ideal for holidays and visits to relatives. The only query I have is how long the pens will last.
