We have not seen the prequel to Journey 2: The Mysterious Island, but this didn’t matter, we loved this film and it has been constantly on play since we received it

Initial Thoughts: The new family adventure Journey 2: The Mysterious Island begins when seventeen-year-old Sean Anderson (Josh Hutcherson) receives a coded distress signal from a mysterious island where no island should exist.

Unable to stop him from tracking the signal to its source, Sean’s new stepfather, Hank (Dwayne Johnson), joins the quest that will take them first to the South Pacific, and then to a place few people have ever seen. Or lived to tell about. It’s a place of stunning beauty, strange and threatening life forms, volcanoes, mountains of gold and more than one astonishing secret.

Together with Gabato (Luis Guzmán), the only helicopter pilot willing to risk the trip, and Gabato’s beautiful, strong-willed daughter Kailani (Vanessa Hudgens), they set out to find the island, rescue its lone human inhabitant and escape before seismic shockwaves force the island underwater and bury its treasures forever, in this follow-up to the 2008 worldwide hit Journey to the Center of the Earth.

I have to say I never hold out much hopes for sequels, espeically when there is a cast change, however, I was happy to be proved wrong with Journey 2: The Mysterious Island.  The boys aged 6 and 7 adored it and both myself and husband managed to sit through it without wanting to tear our eyes out.

We Liked: It was great to be really surprised by an action film aimed at children, as a family we ALL enjoyed Journey 2: The Mysterious Island.  The fact that it is loosely based on Joules Verne had MadDad gripped and meant for some great conversations with the boys and means that they will now be introduced to Verne’s novels.  It is action packed which kept the childrens attentions and the Blu Ray has great visuals.  The boys loved the whole small elephant, big bees thing that was going on!

We Weren’t Keen: There was nothing that we weren’t keen on

Overall: We have not seen the prequel to Journey 2: The Mysterious Island, but this didn’t matter, we loved this film and it has been constantly on play since we received it
