Initial Thoughts: Piran always loves a fire engine of any description so we were thrilled when the Big Boots Blaze Brigade Vehicle was sent to us to play with. It arrived on a difficult afternoon and was the perfect distraction. Thankfully, the toy came out the packaging really easy, none of those annoying plastic coated ties, just simple plastic locking mechanisms. Piran only cared that it was out any ready to play with in seconds but I was thrilled it was so simple.

We Liked: Any plastic toy that doesn’t make an annoying noise is good, and this one doesn’t need batteries to work which is great. It seems to be sturdy and well built. We also received an extra set of Big Boots figures but you got three with the set which were enough. I had to show Piran how each part worked but as soon as I did he was able to use it quite easily (he is just 3). We loved the figures and it was a new concept to Piran that they always ended up on their feet. There are three ways of launching the figures into action (to fight the fires) and a water cannon that shoots a plastic ‘jet’ of water.

We Weren’t Keen: The figures came with small parts for holding in their hands. I didn’t give these to Piran in the first place as I was concerned about Kate (17mths) eating them (the water canon was also left off for the same reason) but to be honest they would have been lost by the end of the first day anyway. I do think that the cost of this toy is too much for what it is.

Overall: A fun fire engine with the added benefit of moving parts that fling the figures across the room. The ejector seats are the best part and my 3 year old could work all of the actions. The figures are a real hit and have been named and carried round and taken to bed on occasion. Part of a range of toys so there are figures to collect and other vehicles available which is nice if this is a hit. We have also had fun lauching conkers and other toys around the room as well as the figures but I do have to keep reminding him to watch out for other people. Any child that has a love of vehicles or fire engines is bound to like the Matchbox Big Boots Blaze Brigade Vehicle.
