Stocking fillers aren’t what they used to be. Nowadays they don’t even need to be in a stocking. They are just the little bits and pieces that bulk-up your children’s Christmas present haul. The common strategy is to put a lot of thought into a child’s big present and to just get a bunch of silly little things as ‘stocking fillers’.
Nowadays being a parent is rife with complications. It is no longer just about keeping your precious ones fed, clothed and loved. The world has become a much larger place thanks to the wonders of …
“The Lego Mobile Police Unit is challenging to build, fun to play with, and very reasonably-priced. We loved it.”

Initial thoughts: Typically, when Lego comes in to our house, we wait until Flea’s …
This sweet little interactive stray play and train puppy came delivered in bright cheery packaging and certainly got the attention of the children straight away. The puppy comes with a clicker to start and change puppy functions. Puppy can sit up and beg, bark, stand or walk, and even eat treats. What made it it seem all the more appealing for my little ones is the fact that the puppy poops after eating his treat! What child wouldn’t love that function.
We were quite impressed with this as a bundle of stuff, it includes badges, a bag, magazines and a year planner. It all comes in a neat folder, and is quite attractively laid out.
This is a mug for christmas, is bright, is cheerful, and very festive, especially with the musical twist. I have two children and would possibly consider one each as there has been a little squabbling about who gets their drink in it.
These are well made, fun socks that represent excellent value for money. I’m sure we’ll get lots (and lots) of wear out of them in December. I’m positive that all children would love a pair of these to wear at Christmas so I would highly recommend them to anyone. In fact, I quite fancy a pair myself.
I love the idea of teaching my boys about the value of money and how important it is to save. A good solid money box that can’t be easily pilfered is a great way to encourage them to do it, and makes it a bit more fun than relying on Mummy to remember how much money each one has got. It is also key to make sure that it is quite difficult to get into to discourage Mummy from borrowing cash for parking machines. It is difficult to go wrong with a £1 gift!
Excellent value at the reduced price currently being offered, these Mamas and Papas beanies are going to make a lovely addition to Kai’s Christmas stocking and would be a firm hit with any young baby on Christmas day.
You would think children have enough of school without playing it in their free time too. Not in this house. Playing “schools” is very popular with my girls, aged nine and four.
I can remember childhood games involving registers, lining up dolls and being rather bossy. Now, thanks to the Brightminds School Set, this perennial favourite has moved on. So much so that it’s all I can do to stop myself telling them to play something else while Mummy has a go.
My little boy loves monkeys, and he loves something soft and cuddly to snuggle up to at naptime, so this immediately seemed like the perfect combination!
hese are obviously made of really good quality glass and would make sweet little keep-sake presents, christening gifts or nursery ornaments. I have to admit, I wasn’t overly keen on the designs I was sent, but looking at the website there are hundreds of gorgeous designs to choose from and in lots of different formats – the little key-rings and Christmas decorations I thought were especially lovely and I would be delighted to receive these as gifts (hint hint).
When the chair arrived I couldn’t wait to get it out of the box and started used it immediately. It comes with a tray which can be fixed in three positions and is great for playing and eating. The Cushi Tush has been a bit of a god send in the last week especially as my bad back has meant it’s been difficult to get the high chair out and put it away again, so it’s provided a quick and easy option for snack time. Its also good for when I want BG to calm down before naps and bedtime – we put her in it and sit and play quietly or read. BG also likes to play WITH it!! And as its so lightweight she manages to throw it around quite easily!
The Pink horse skipping rope is is a lovely skipping rope, that feels much more solid than the usual plastic sets I’ve seen in this price range. The price is very reasonable, at under £5 and it’s ethically made too.
We do absolutely love these new Chan Pie Gnon teethers from Vulli as toys and people have commented on how cool they are. They are definitely worth having, but as teethers we prefer Sophie the Giraffe, mainly as its legs and head are a lot easier for her to get in her mouth
This beautiful, large ‘touchy-feely’ board book from Usborne contains fun things to find on every page behind lots of little flaps and different textures for curious fingers to explore.
This Christmas, The Great Toy Guide has teamed up with four of the UK’s leading toy retailers to give you – our lovely readers – the chance to win your children’s Christmas presents.
We’ve put together …
This advent calendar is in the shape of a house with 24 little doors, and has a musical snowflake which you need to wind up. It looks well made and is very colourful. The children couldn’t wait to have a good look at it and open and shut the little doors.
The Tesco Skeleton Kids Halloween Costume is really great value for money outfit and more substantial than some supermarket offerings. Definitely my favourite from the Tesco range this year.
The Naturally Playful Storybook Cottage Playhouse is a dream playhouse for any child, full of fantastic features and sturdy and big enough to last a long time. However, you might need to smile sweetly at the Grandparents to afford the hefty price tag!
When I suggested bringing this toy back home after our holiday, my niece and nephew begged to keep it at their house, which shows how much they loved it – maybe one day they’ll get around to playing Connect 4, who knows? Fantastic fun for kids and very flexible, with a lovely nostalgia element.
