Klip Kitz gives you a reasonable value Buzz Lightyear figure, which is not to heavy to play with, but it does have its flaws and does require quite a lot of parental support …
When we received this, I had to wrack my brains a little to make the Toy Story connection – but this is the pizza planet delivery truck that Buzz and Woody ride in during the first Toy Story movie. This set is over 8 inches long, and is aimed at 7-12 year olds. The box includes a truck, Buzz, Rex and Hamm figure and a secret switch that makes the truck fire pizzas!
The Lego Toy Story train chase prompted quite unprecedented excitement in our house. This is a toy train that looks like a toy train should! There is a bright engine and three carriages and the added bonus of a host of Toy Story minifigures – Hamm, Woody, Buzz, Rex and Bullseye. Once complete the train is 23 inches long and 4 inches high – substantial and large enough for little hands to play with.
Like many households we’re collecting the Toy Story characters in toy form so Flea can re-enact her favourite parts of the films. Flea was really excited to be sent this set, which includes a Woody figure and a Bullseye horse – Woody can sit on the horse, which rears up when you push down on the tail. The toy is really quite straightforward, so I’ll admit the £27 RRP did make me shriek “HOW MUCH????” (Hunt around though, as John Lewis was selling this at under £20 when this review was published).
Got a Toy Story fan in the family? Buy this. Even though the Buzz Lightyear Sky Board isn’t too sturdy, we have really enjoyed playing with this toy – I thought it was a simple idea that worked really well. I think a Sky Board would be a great beach or park toy for Buzz Lightyear fans, just don’t be disappointed if it doesn’t last the whole summer.
The interactive play mode really is quite special for youngsters, but even better is that they can turn Buzz into a regular toy when they’ve had enough of the slightly surreal conversations he engages them in. And even better than that, you can turn off the sounds entirely and Buzz is silent. It’s an expensive toy and not an impulse purchase but for the dedicated Toy Story fan, the Buzz Lightyear toy is a tried and tested recommendation.
I do think this is needlessly expensive, but if your child is a Toy Story fan, then having the same packaging as is used in the film might be worth it. But I’ve been surprised by just how much my four year old loves these toy soldiers, and just how much use they’ve got, so even at £12, they are pretty good value.
The Toy Story radio-controlled car is a fun toy, and kids will have lots of fun with the car and figures. For parents, I’d say be prepared to help little ones get the hang of the controls and use rechargeable batteries! And I’m not convinced of the quality – it seems fragile and prone to breaking.
